True Meaning of Christmas

img_3446  Bale stopped by the house and noticed our Christmas decorations.  As I shared some of our family’s Christmas traditions, she exclaimed, “This will be my first Christmas I celebrate where I understand the true meaning of Christmas.”  She continued, “Oh, I used to ‘celebrate’ the season…with drinking and partying. But I had no idea what it was all about.”

Bale has come a long way since I met her at the fruit drink stand back in February (see cmastories March 2016 “Six o’clock”, April 2016 “Welcome to the family, Bale”).  She had been on the verge of selling her soul to the devil.  “I was very seriously considering doing that when you stopped by.  Actually I was going to do it that very night!” she told me after she had asked Jesus to be her Savior.  Bale shared with the church members on the day she was baptized in November, “I remember what Sue said to me that day she met me. She said, ‘There is a better way.’”

Now Bale is a bold witness for Jesus.  She first shared her new faith with her boyfriend, Ahn.  He was surprised by the sudden changes in her life and curious about what she told him about Jesus.  He received Jesus as his Savior about a month after Bale’s dramatic conversion.  Bale continued to share the good news of Jesus with anyone who came to buy her fruit drinks.  Then a few months ago, her paternal grandmother, Tong-jera, come to faith in Jesus, primarily through Bale’s witness and changed life.  Bale is a regular worship leader at our Wednesday night Baan Paeo cell group.  She is helping me with the Saturday children’s outreach as necessary.  Bale narrated the Christmas play the children performed during this year’s community Christmas outreach.

Bale’s prayer now is for her mother who lives overseas with her new husband.  Her mom is visiting Thailand for a few weeks over the holidays and keeps inviting Bale to go out and party with her “like the old days.”  “She calls and wants me to go out for a beer.  But I don’t drink anymore,” explained Bale.  The Lord delivered her of that and other vices a few months after becoming a Christian.  “Pray that I don’t fall into sin.  I want to spend time with my mom.  I love her, but I don’t love what she does.  Pray that I will be strong.”

Please join us in praying for Bale and her entire family that each member will embrace the true meaning of Christmas as Bale has.

“…you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”  Matthew 1:21 (NIV)

I continue to be amazed and encouraged at how you plant churches one convert at a time. Glad to be on your team.
