Blessings in the Midst

Nun and her nephew

Left with no source of income after her hair salon was closed at the end of March in compliance with the government’s lockdown due to COVID, Nun moved out of Baan Paeo and in with her sister’s family in Baan Bo, about a 20 minutes’ drive away, to care for her young nephew so her sister could work.  We both cried as we prayed for her on moving day, remembering how God had started the Mahapawn Baan Paeo Church in her hair salon four years earlier.   But could it be that God has sent Nun ahead to help start another Thai church?  Baan Bo is where Pastor Sukprasan is targeting for the next daughter church.  I believe God is in this.

Noot and Pranom

Pranom and Noot, two elderly sisters, dearly miss meeting for Sunday worship.  They have no smart phone or internet access to watch our on-line service.  Three young ladies in our church have begun to regularly visit them, pray with them and encourage them in the Lord.  Pranom is a solid newer believer, baptized last year.  But Noot has stayed on the fence between her former beliefs and Jesus.

The young ladies were able to address some of Noot’s fears and concerns, especially about deceased relatives and her desire to somehow care for them. My weekly discipleship time with the two elderly sisters has consequently progressed to a deeper level.  I believe God is in this.

While many of our adult church members have joined the worship on-line, the children who used to come to church on their own have not.  This last weekend we were able to pass out care packages to 25 of these neighborhood children which contained hand sanitizer, face masks, instant noodles and other treats.  We enclosed a paper encouraging the children to check out some good Christian Thai children’s Apps while they stay at home.  I believe God is in this.

Our on-line services have drawn a wider audience than our Sunday worship services did in the church building. Even some teens from the local high school have watched them. Some of our members share the link for the live-steamed service on their FB page and off it goes around the country! Some not-yet Christian “friends” have commented, and conversations have started.  I believe God is in this.

We’ve made it a point to contact each of our members in some way each week to hear their heart and pray with them.  More adults have joined our mid-week prayer meeting on ZOOM than used to come physically before the lockdown.  I believe God is in this.

“See, I am doing a new thing!  Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?  I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.”  Isaiah 43:19

    Hi Sue and Ed,

It is so neat to see God’s plan unfolding, and how he continues to use you. You have such big hearts..what a blessing to those around you.

Know we are praying for you and for them. Carlisle Thai Cuisine is no longer in business. Thank you for reaching out there while you were with us. Praying for you!

Praise the Lord for how He is at work! God takes difficulties and uses them for His glory! We are seeing some of the same results as well.

God sure is in this whole thing! Well written, Sue and Ed! As much as I don’t like being inconvenienced (no haircut since Jan 7), and having freedoms revoked (churches closed for two months) I really want God to be magnified and for folks around the globe–saved and unsaved– to humble ourselves and turn to Him!
