“Instruction of Stay: It is not allowed to come outside of the room till check out…Report your temperature everyday 2 times…Covid test day 2 and day 5…Relaxing at roof top available 1 time per day…starting from day 4…45 minutes per day…Choose your meals by 3 pm the day before…”  Thus began our week of quarantine in an approved hotel in Bangkok.

Sadly, Ed’s father passed away unexpectedly on January 9.  He is a believer, and we know he is rejoicing with his Savior, Jesus, in heaven.  We quickly arranged to go to the USA for two weeks, juggling all the new travel regulations due to this Covid era and arrived in Pennsylvania on January 15.  It was so good to be with Ed’s family, to grieve together and to share memories together.  The celebration of life service on January 22 was very God honoring.

Returning to Thailand was rather stressful with the current travel requirements, not only for Thailand but for every airline and every stopover country.  Then the day before we were to leave, a heavy snowstorm struck the northeast of the USA.  We decided to change our flight to head west back to Thailand instead of east.  We almost got stuck in Seoul, South Korea.  We praise God we were able to work things out and they allowed us to board the plane.

After such an emotionally charged visit to the USA and a challenging trip back, it was actually good to be in the comfortable quarantine hotel.  We used the time to get spiritually refreshed, with unrushed daily devotions, extended times to pray together, and binge-watching on-line worship services.

God has set us apart as believers in Him.  But different than quarantine which separates us from the world, we are to be in the world but not of the world.  May that be true of our lives.
