Praise and Prayer Requests – July 2020

Praise God for the smooth transition back to using the church building after ten weeks of COVID lockdown.  We have had good attendance and even visitors.  The downstairs monitor system is working well for “overflow”.  We continue to do the service live on Facebook for those unable to come and those far and wide who view the post.  Pray that God would continue to add to our number as the members share their faith in the community. Praise God for the growing group of enthusiastic young adults in the church.  They serve on the worship team, help run the computers […]

Moving out of Lockdown

The month of May almost became routine with doing live stream Sunday worship services and mid-week devotionals, as well as weekly virtual prayer meetings and leadership training via zoom.  Face masks were required when we ventured out of the home with temperature checks and hand gel at every turn, it seemed.  As the country now moves out of lockdown, we are required to sign in and sign out when we go into a store, in case we need to be notified of possible exposure to the virus.  Praise God, the numbers of infections and deaths have been relatively low.  Besides […]

Praise and Prayer Requests – June 2020

Please pray for God to lead us in creative ways to reach out to the community now that the country is moving out of lockdown. Sittichai is also burdened for the many that joined us on-line from around the country too. Is there such a thing as safe social distance children’s ministry?  With the Thai schools opening for their first semester on July 1, we anticipate more children coming to the church throughout the week.  Nong Baw, who will be going into fifth grade, has already asked Sittichai to start the discipleship lessons with him again.  Praise God.  Pray for […]

Blessings in the Midst

Left with no source of income after her hair salon was closed at the end of March in compliance with the government’s lockdown due to COVID, Nun moved out of Baan Paeo and in with her sister’s family in Baan Bo, about a 20 minutes’ drive away, to care for her young nephew so her sister could work.  We both cried as we prayed for her on moving day, remembering how God had started the Mahapawn Baan Paeo Church in her hair salon four years earlier.   But could it be that God has sent Nun ahead to help start another […]

Praise and Prayer Requests – May 2020

The lay leadership training program has hobbled along “on-line” during the current lockdown with mixed results. Ed and Sittichai will be transitioning to a hybrid model for the weekly discussion groups with some participants meeting at church joined by others “on-line”.   Please pray for the five church members in the program, that they will each grow in their faith as they are equipped for ministry through the program. Sittichai will be completing his nine-month internship at our church at the end of May.  Praise God, he has agreed to continue serving at the church.   Please pray that God will continue […]

Life in Thailand with COVID-19

A month ago, we posed the question in our prayer update of whether we would be able to take a two-week vacation in the USA in April.  Well those plans have been canceled.  The Thai borders are now closed to foreigners, so if we had gone, we would not have been able to return…at least any time soon.  Now our new question is, how do we effectively minister to our Thai brothers and sisters in Christ amid a rapidly changing situation.  Infections are unfortunately growing.  The Thai government has declared a state of emergency in order to try and contain […]

Opportunities at the Hospital

We have been praying for 4 ½ years that we could have an outreach ministry at the local hospital.  Praise God, the Lord is bringing it all together.  At the end of December, the Lord brought Bang to our church.  Bang is a recent nursing school graduate from the north of Thailand and now works as a nurse in the children’s ward of the Baan Paeo Hospital!  A Christian for about five years, she is a delight and a wonderful addition to our fellowship.  She is already witnessing to colleagues. Then in January, the hospital invited Bale, a church member, […]

Praise and Prayer Requests – March 2020

Praise God, the three-day Soul Care conference (based on Dr. Rob Reimer’s material) went well.   Translating the notes was quite a job.  We thank God for His enabling.  Pray now as we offer this to other church members.  Ed is currently working with one young man and Sue is working through the material with two young ladies.  May our Thai believers go deeper with Jesus and experience true freedom in Christ. The Saturday outreach to children and youth still goes in spurts.  The children are getting ready to finish their school year.  The Thai summer school break will be mid-March […]

Meet Nok: Reaping more fruit from the school outreaches

Saturday morning, I was busy setting up for the kid’s outreach.  Ajarn Sittichai mentioned that a friend of Manao’s stopped by earlier.  She would be back a little later.  The kids started to arrive.  As I was then busy having the children do the first activity, Nok, (second from the right in the picture) a young lady in eighth grade at Manao’s school, came in the church.  We chatted as the children worked on their pictures.  I asked her if she remembered seeing us at her high school on Christmas day.  “Oh yes!” she said.  “I was one of […]
