One Big Family

“It feels like one big family.”  That was my thought on Thurs., Aug. 31st while eating dinner for the first time with all the students and teachers of the Urban Ministry Training Center.  Part of the family feel came from the six children running all around – squealing and laughing, as they played together.  But part of the family feel also came from how well everyone seemed to interact with one another right from the first.  There was none of the awkwardness of new acquaintances, we were family – one family in Jesus Christ.

The first day of classes began the next day and the four students had me as their first teacher!  Although they were nervous and I was also unsure how the class would go, we started out with some worship and sharing praises.  Each student praised God for His provision and making a way for them to come to this school even when it seemed impossible.  The class proceeded smoothly from there.

Although we are only on day two of this first trimester, already we see God’s answers to prayer in the students and the way things are running.  That is a testimony to the goodness of God and to your many prayers.  Thank you!  Thank you!  Thank you!

Please continue to pray for the UMTC.  We are still figuring out the best way for things to work – and this includes the challenges that come with eight adults and six young children living all in one house!  Pray for the students as they adjust to full-time study (for some it is challenging).  Continue to pray for the teachers to have wisdom and be sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit.

And pray for me, too.  This school schedule is going to be challenging (it’s only been one day and I’m already tired!).  It takes many hours of preparation for me to teach a three hour class twice a week, in addition to other responsibilities at the school and also helping at a young adult church plant on Sundays.  Pray that I am able to adjust well to this new rigorous schedule.

Thank you again for building God’s Kingdom with us through your prayers and gifts!

Will pray for your strength and stamina, as well as everyone adapting to the new lifestyle and schedules.

Catie and the kids are adjusting to life back in school so it will be easy for us to remember to be praying for you as well! Praying for you as you adjust to a new schedule and manage your important ministry responsibilities.

Kandi, Praying for you often!! Will pray especially for strength and stamina, and for wisdom for each student and each subject you are teaching. Tell us more about the church plant when you have time 🙂 . How’s the new house working out?

Thanks for the prayers, Lila. They are so appreciated! I’m not doing much the church plant, which is up and running well after two years. I help with a small group and take turns with the rest of guys to preach once and a while. Most of my time is with the Bible school – it’s a full time job, but I love it! Who knew, that I’d say “I love it” in relation to anything in the city?!! 🙂

Oh, and the house is great! Just what I needed and right where I needed it to be . . . 5 minute walk from the school. God is good!
