Covid Outbreak

Only a day after I put out the last update, a student knocked on my door early in the morning to tell me she had a sore throat and a fever. She tested positive. The next day four more students either tested positive or started to develop symptoms. Two days later, we had two teachers also sick. For a small school these seven people represent half our school!

But God is good and knows what is coming. We have been praying and praying for God to send us more students, but we have only a handful this year and we couldn’t understand why. But when we needed to isolate five students from the rest of the school, all those empty dorm rooms were a blessing.

It’s been a busy week for those of us who did not get ill. We picked up extra chores and kitchen duties. We delivered food, water, medicine and necessities to those who were sick. And in the midst of that, we still had some classes! As the only medical person at the school, I spent a lot of time giving out medications, advice and reassurance. And thankfully, all our students are recovering and hopefully will be out to isolation later this week. Pray for our teachers Sarom and Kunthea (husband & wife) who are the directors of the school and are still ill.

Praise God – our two year olds and our 60+ year old student did not get sick. Continue to pray for their health.

Please also continue to pray for strength, energy and wisdom for the teachers. I know the teachers who did not get sick (myself included) are tired from all the extra work – giving both physical and emotional care.

I also heard today that both Nhieu and Rebekah (who I spoke about in the last update) and her parents who were staying with them for the birth of their baby are sick with Covid. Pray for them to recover quickly and for the safe delivery of a healthy baby in the next couple of weeks.

As for the Mission Prayer Retreat, when the planning committee heard that our speakers and our main child care help got Covid, the Mission Prayer Retreat plans changed from in person to a few Zoom meetings. It’s disappointing that we couldn’t all get together – as we haven’t been able to do that since Covid started – but we are grateful we had some time together on Zoom.

Thank you so much for standing in prayer with us. God is in control and is faithful. And there are many lessons He was teaching us through this outbreak. May we have eyes to see, ears to hear and hearts willing to receive those lessons.
