Covid Continues & God is Faithful

Thank you for your faithfulness in prayer. We have needed your prayers here at the Antioch Bible Institute over the past weeks.

In the last update, I asked you to pray for Rebecca and Nhieu who are Antioch graduates pastoring a church and reaching out to a new community in Phnom Penh. They were expecting their first child and about a week before her due date the whole family got Covid. It broke our hearts to hear the news that she began bleeding and they lost their baby. Not only did they lose their baby but because of the way the Cambodian health system works and because Rebecca had Covid, they could not be together. Rebecca had to endure a lot alone in a hospital room while Nhieu waited outside the hospital hoping for news. She is now home recovering. Please pray for them.

I also mentioned last time that half of the school got sick with Covid but was recovering. Unfortunately, we were then hit with another round of Covid at Antioch. One by one those that weren’t sick the first time around got sick, including myself. There are only three people on campus who didn’t get sick – a child of a teacher, a teenaged brother of another teacher and our 60 year old plus student (Auntie Sok).

Still we see God’s hand of grace and mercy in our staggered illnesses. As the first group of students and teachers recovered, the second group got sick, so we always had half the school able to care for those who were sick. And interestingly, I was the last to get sick – which was good, because as the only medical person on campus, I was able to help care for everyone before I got sick. And of course, although we were/are sick, God was continuing to work.

The praises and testimonies the students and teachers are sharing as they come out of isolation show that He has been at work. Some have praised God that although Covid has been around for two years, it’s only now when the Covid variant is causing mild illness that the school was effected. This also is the grace of God. All praise God for His faithful care through others at the school and the parents of the two year olds praised God that although their sons had high fevers, they recovered quickly. Some shared how God met them in their isolation and others how He exposed their pride and humbled them. And some noted how our relationships at the school have grown closer as we served one another.

We can’t always understand why certain things happen but we can be sure that God is still at work. Sometimes He allows us to see glimpses of what He is doing while other times we have no idea what is going on and He asks us to walk by faith. But in it all, He is faithful and walks with us.

Pray for the full recovery of those of us who are still ill. We hope to have everyone out of isolation by the end of the week. Pray particularly for Auntie Sok, who returned home for a family wedding. Pray that she continues to remain healthy and doesn’t get Covid at the wedding or the school. Pray also for her heart. She’s very fearful of Covid and this is an opportunity for her to grow in her trust of God.

Thank you so much for your prayers and support!

Thanks Sharon. It is very sad about the baby. I’m doing well – just not testing negative yet, so stuck in the house.

Continuing to pray for you, Rebecca and Niehu and for the Lord’s healing touch in many ways through this time. Praying for you to recover quickly, Kandi. Get enough rest and of course enough to eat!

We are praying for you and will be praying for all that you mentioned. Wish we were there to help, but know we WILL continue to pray.

Thanks Dawn. I am well, just stuck in the apartment because I’m still testing positive. At least I have the puppies to play with! And don’t worry about the food. The students give me room service. 🙂

Sorry to hear that one by one everyone got the Covid. I have been around multiple people that had it and still have never showed a sign or got any symptoms of it so I think our Father has my immune system in overdrive. Am very sorry for the couple that lost the baby, wow. Can’t imagine going thru that but He always has a reason for what He does, even though we don’t know why. My thoughts are for them deeply. Well hopefully after all that all of you are better and back to your activities. All of you are in my prayers along with my church I am in.
