The First Week

Praise God our first week of classes went well!  Thank your for your prayers as we figured out how to arrange our classroom spaces and get the new kitchen up and running.  We did have a few obstacles, like losing electricity in the kitchen and the boys’ room for a day.  Thankfully, Teacher Moum was able to put our perishable foods in other refrigerators and on ice until the problem was fixed.  But over all, our first week went quite well and the students are now busy with lots of homework! Ministry groups will start this week at four locations.  […]

The First Day is Here!

Despite a rainy start to the day, the move to the new Antioch school location went well and more quickly than we anticipated.  The temporary living spaces for the teachers and students are adequate, but not ideal.  This, of course, causes some stress and tension, so please be praying for good relationships between the teachers and between the students in the coming weeks.  Pray that we will all have hearts of gratitude for all that God has done and given us.  (And that we will be patient as the third floor of our own building is completed in the next […]

A New School Year – A New Adventure

What amazing prayer warriors you are!  God has answered your prayers and we have three new students enrolled in the full-time program at the Antioch Bible Institute.  We are excited to welcome to the school – Meng, Sopeak and Srey Ruah. Pray for them as they make their preparations to come to Phnom Penh (they are all from other cities in Cambodia) for the start of classes on September 3rd.  Pray for our four 2nd year students as well. The construction of our residence building has picked up its pace in the last weeks, but we found out today that […]

Graduation and beyond . . .

The Antioch Graduation on July 25th was a joyful occasion for the students, teachers, family and friends who attended.  What fun it was to see the first year students receive their certificates and the second year students their diplomas.  A teacher couldn’t be more proud.  Hanna, one of the graduating students, invited two of the children from the railroad track community to graduation, so I got to play ‘mom’ to the 10 and 12 year old girls, while Hanna participated in the program.  The girls had a blast and the 10 year old told me she wanted to go to […]

The End and the Beginning . . .

God has graciously answered many of your prayers in the last weeks, so thank you for praying! The students seem to be doing a bit better these last two weeks.  One of the students who has been battling various spiritual issues this trimester has been so joyful this last week.  I think it’s proof of the effectiveness of your prayers and the power of God that she has found joy and freedom!  Her happiness certainly comes from nearing the end of the trimester (as all students and teachers are happy when summer vacation nears), but it also comes from the […]

Pray, Pray, Pray!

Dear friends, I am so grateful for your intercessory prayers for the Antioch Bible Institute.  It has been a difficult trimester with a lot of ‘yucky’ sin issues and strongholds being exposed and confronted.  Every time it seems we have made progress, have found victory – the enemy rises to attack again.  I’m sorry that I can’t speak more specifically about the spiritual battles that some of our students are facing, but God knows – even better than we teachers.  We need your prayers. On Friday, we saw a big issue put to rest through humble confession.  Forgiveness was asked […]

June Already!!

We are half-way through the trimester at Antioch already.  There have continued to be relationship problems among the female students, but praise God, we saw a bit of a turn around last week.  The girls are once again talking – and seem more open to looking at some of the root issues of problems in their own lives.  Continue to pray that the students will not run from or deny the deeply buried pain and strongholds in their lives, but will courageously face them and bring them to Jesus.  Pray that we teachers would know best how to help them. […]

Back to School, Part 3

Let me express my sincere thanks for your prayers and words of condolence over the last weeks.  It is hard to lose my father, but I know that he is freer and happier now than he has been in sometime.  As it comes to mind, please continue to pray for my family and I to grieve the loss of his presence in a healthy way. In my absence, the Antioch Bible Institute started the 3rd and final trimester of the school year on April 23rd.  From what I’ve heard, classes are off to a good start.  I’ll be back and […]

God is good . . . all the time

This is a long, long over due update.  Let me thank everyone who has continued to pray faithfully for the Antioch Bible Institute – even without regular updates. I have been asking your prayer for a long time for relationships among the students.  We, teachers, have tried everything we could think of to help the girls reconcile – without success.  Finally, we decided there was nothing else for us to do and God had to do it.  So we turned our efforts to fasting and praying — which in truth, should have been our first step.  So we prayed and […]

February update

Antioch school life continues to march forward and we are now half way through the trimester.  This past month has been particularly busy with class and many visitors from outside the country.  I got another bout of dengue fever at the end of January, but thankfully, it wasn’t as severe as last time (in Poipet) and I am fully recovered.  One of the highlights of the last month for me was to see one of the missionary kids from Poipet get married.  The family she married into also works in Cambodia (with Samaritan’s Purse), so the wedding was here.  It […]
